A glitch

Vermont soft-serve? Not too shabby. 2022.

Mackenzie and I planned another mother-daughter bike trip this year. (Our last one was Adirondacks in 2022.) Austria is our destination this year, and we are set to leave tomorrow. We've had a glitch, though.

Mackenzie was hit by a car while riding her bike in D.C. last Friday. She's mostly okay. She was checked out at the hospital and got stitches in her knee. Today, that same leg is swollen and stiff all up and down the thigh and calf and she walks with a limp. It is temporary, no doubt. Otherwise she has some bruises here and there. What happened was she was legally riding through an intersection with a green light, but a driver in a van was coming, somewhat slowly (thank goodness) in the opposite direction didn't see her, took a left and hit her and her bike. The driver was cited and fined.

So. Now she can't bike in Austria. Her body is too stiff and sore, but again, basically overall she is all right.

We looked at our options and are hoping I can still ride. We are considering a plan where I do the four days of our loop ride in the Salzburg area on my bike, and she rides alongside me on a Vespa. That could be fun.

We are using a company called Rad-Reisen and are signed up for one of their self-directed tours. This means we are on our own once the trip is underway, but are using Ride with GPS routes provided by Rad, and they are moving our luggage along each day and have secured our hotel rooms along the way.
